When I first opened the lime green door to The Shrimp, our own little cottage on Tybee Island, I was hit with a sudden burst of happiness! It was so bright! So cheerful!! SO ME! I'm telling you guys, if I was going to decorate a getaway cottage, it would look pretty much like this. Designer and preservationist Jane Coslick is responsible for the fun and funky design of this colorful slice of heaven. When she got her hands on the cottage, it was actually a rundown machine shop with only ONE window! (She added 15 new ones!) I cannot even imagine the work she did to restore it! And I can't think of a better place to call home for our stay on Tybee!
The cute little cottage is located just three short blocks from the ocean, directly across from a park. It's actually on the same property as another one of Jane's (equally as darling) projects Key Lime Parrot. (You can rent both out through Mermaid Cottages...what a fun family vacation that would be!) With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, there was plenty of room to stretch out. I loved the kitchen, totally decked out with colorful kitchenware–even turquoise placemats and napkins! And did you see that screened-in porch?! It just screams relax! The outdoor shower was a real treat too. And I just have to say, Chris and I were both surprised how remarkably CLEAN the entire place was. Maybe because it's old, but we just weren't expecting everything to feel so fresh and clean. (Nothing grosses me out like a scary old shower!) My favorite thing about the whole entire place though was the big comfy chair with the striped slipcover...if only I could have taken it home with me!
You can see a TON more (professional!) pics and read all about the cottage here. And check out all the other fun Mermaid Cottages on Tybee that you can rent right here. It was super hard to pick which one we wanted to stay at, they are all too cute! Next time I want to stay at Basking Under the Tybee Sun, it has it's own private pool!
So happy it's finally Friday! Tomorrow I'm headed to North Carolina to hit up the High Point Market for a few days and I cannot wait! Last year was mind-blowing, I was on design cloud nine every minute. It's basically like incredible non-stop window shopping in the coolest showrooms ever. (But I can't actually buy anything, so it's all good!) I will take loads of pics though and report back with some turquoise finds for you guys. I hear blue is going to be a big trend this fall, so we'll just see about that! If you're also headed to High Point, I hope to see you there!
